About the Habitat Hub
The Habitat Hub is a room and venue hire place, as well as a community centre with a focus on wellbeing and connection, owned and operated by Habitat for Humanity Nelson. Proceeds from room hire is used for Habitat Nelson’s housing projects helping local families in need into housing.
Hub’s focus is on promoting community wellbeing, connected and thriving communities. It is also a base for Habitat for Humanity Nelson’s affordable housing initiatives. Particularly, Manaakitanga (hospitality, caring) and Kotahitanga (unity, collaboration) are central to the activities, services and organisations working in this facility.
All in one
The Hub provides support and services to Nelson’s community, including food, volunteering, financial advice, second-hand goods, and affordable housing. Moreover, the Hub acts as a space for community groups to conduct classes and meetings, promoting connections, inclusion, and skill development.
Partnerships at heart
The Hub’s foundation is built on partnership and collaboration. Therefore, Habitat is working with a range of community-focused organisations to provide services that meet the needs of the Nelson community.
The Hub’s current tenants include The Nelson Community Foodbank, Volunteer Nelson, The Buzz, Accounting for Good, and Mosaic Community Church.
By partnering with like-minded community organisations, Habitat can better address the needs of the community and provide a space of caring and support for many years to come. As stewards of this building our hope is that the Habitat Hub will be known as a place of being kind and doing good.
The Hub is also home to nook. Café, a community café where groups gather, socialize, and receive training and upskilling opportunities for youth, former refugees and people with disabilities. Additionally, nook. supports the community with pay-it-forward options and other innovations that promote community wellbeing, inclusion and connection. Every purchase from nook. supports Habitat Nelson’s local housing programmes aimed at building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
Habitat Nelson’s secondhand shop ReStore has also been relocated to the Hub. You can shop, donate, volunteer at our charity shop to support warm, dry and safe housing for local families in need.
