About the Habitat Hub
The Habitat Hub is a room and venue hire place, a community centre with a focus on wellbeing and connection, owned and operated by Habitat for Humanity Nelson. Proceeds from room hire is used for Habitat Nelson’s housing projects helping local families in need into housing.
The Habitat Hub has a focus on promoting community wellbeing, connected and thriving communities, and is a base for Habitat for Humanity Nelson’s affordable housing initiatives. Manaakitanga (hospitality and caring) and Kotahitanga (unity, collaboration) are central to the activities, services and organisations working in this facility, as is working in partnership with other organisations and community groups in the area.
All in one
Through the Hub, the Nelson community can receive support and access services, such as food parcels, volunteer and training opportunities, financial support and advice, good quality second-hand goods and affordable housing. Furthermore, the Hub acts as a space for community groups to gather to teach classes and hold meetings, promoting connection, inclusion and thriving communities and supporting the capability of our community to succeed through increased skills and knowledge.
The Hub is also home to nook. Café – a community café which was established to encourage community groups to gather and socialise, while also providing training and upskilling opportunities for groups such as youth, former refugees and people with disabilities. Additionally, nook. supports the community with pay-it-forward options and other innovations that promote community wellbeing, inclusion and connection. Furthermore, every purchase from nook. supports Habitat’s local housing programmes aimed at building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
The Hub’s foundation is built on partnership and collaboration. Habitat is working with a range of like-minded community focused organisations to provide services and programmes that meet the needs of the Nelson community.
The Hub’s current tenants include Presbyterian Support, The Nelson Community Foodbank, Volunteer Nelson, The Buzz, Accounting for Good, Mosaic Community Church and The St Stephens Repair Café.
By partnering with like-minded community organisations, Habitat can better address the needs of the community and provide a space of caring and support for many years to come. As stewards of this building our hope is that the Habitat Hub will be known as a place of being kind and doing good.
Habitat Nelson’s secondhand ReStore has been relocated to the Hub – shop, donate, volunteer to support warm, dry and safe housing for local families in need.
