Bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope
Global Village
Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program which brings people together to build and improve homes, and to contribute to the health and well-being of communities and the people who live in them. More than 850 teams travel to over 30 countries around the world each year, to help build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Global Village volunteers work in countries where Habitat is already active, to create strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. They build alongside community members and families, offering a hand up out of poverty. Through the experience, volunteers deepen their own understanding of housing and poverty issues and of other cultures, while making a lasting impact through their financial, emotional and physical contribution that continues long after the team returns home.
Global Village volunteers make Habitat’s work sustainable and empower communities to create better futures

August 22-29
Neil Pilbrow is leading our first NZ team to Santa Cruz, Bolivia! September 5 – 12 or 12 – 19
We have an exciting opportunity this month, to send two teams back to back to Fiji, to work on a much needed WASH (Water and Sanitation) Project. Team Leaders Carl, Belinda and Beth have all built in Fiji before and decided they wanted to take others back to experience what they did – the joy and satisfaction of working together with a team of people, both locals and Kiwi volunteers, to help make a tangible difference in a community. Join one of these teams and help work on a project that will link a community to a safe water supply, dramatically improving their long term health and well being.

Myanmar – October 2020
October 3 – 10
Myanmar is one of the poorest countries in Asia, with one in four people living below the national poverty line. Most of the poor live in rural areas, which also tend to be affected by civil conflict or natural disasters like forest fires, landslides, floods and storm surges. Sheelagh McCambridge will be leading this team to spend a week building a home alongside the local community, in Bago district. They will be building a house that is strong enough to resist common natural disasters, so the family will have safety and security to build their future on. If you would like to be a part of this project, please get in touch with Sheelagh, or Tracey at the Global Village office.
Indicative Cost: $2,500 (plus airfares)

Nepal (East) – October 2020
October 31 – November 7
Most people living in East Nepal reside in poorly build thatched houses. Like many other places in the world, decent shelter is a symbol of social dignity. For some, the lack of decent shelter has been a barrier to accessing other essential services such as education, health care, water supply and social mobility. Assisting families to upgrade their current housing conditions provides a social boost to enable families to take the next step in making a better life for themselves. Join Jenny and her team to help build new homes alongside the Nepalese people.
Indicative Cost: $2,970 (plus airfares)

We are excited to once again be able to send Global Village teams to build in Sri Lanka! Spend a week helping construct decent homes for plantation workers in the Central Province of Sri Lanka – Kandy District. These families are currently living in rooms devoid of even the most basic facilities, so having their own home will be life changing for them.
