“The pleasure of knowing you are helping others”

The Whangārei ReStore charity shop raises vital funds for these programmes, which supports local families to have warmer, drier, healthier homes, resulting in better health outcomes for whānau.

Lloma first began volunteering at the Whangārei ReStore six months after it first opened. Eight years later, she is still volunteering weekly and helping new volunteers learn the ropes. “I will always encourage people to volunteer at Habitat. It’s about the pleasure of knowing you are helping others. There are good people here who I like working with,” said Lloma.

Alan, the Whangārei ReStore manager, said, “Volunteers want to come to a warm, welcoming place. They want to come and meet new people and they get so much out of it. We are a down to earth team. We are like a family away from your family.”

Volunteering offers a great way to meet new people, develop new skills and give back to your community. Every volunteer plays an integral role in helping to provide homes and hope for kiwis in housing need.
