The North Island has been hit with extreme weather from Cyclone Gabrielle, while still cleaning up from previous widespread flooding.
The wild winds and heavy rain have particularly impacted Northland, Auckland, the Coromandel, Gisborne and the Hawkes Bay. Many homes have been damaged or destroyed, and whole communities are cut-off due to widespread slips and road closures.
As the full impact from Cyclone Gabrielle continues to emerge, it is clear that access to safe shelter is a key priority. Thousands of families have badly damaged properties and many of those homes will be irreparable. While Habitat isn’t a first-responder in times of disaster in New Zealand, we are ready to support community and iwi organisations in affected regions in the best way we can.
By partnering with us, your financial support will help us assist families during this very challenging time.
Our thoughts are with all whānau who may have been displaced from shelter, and feeling distressed and overwhelmed by the cyclone’s impact.
