We work overseas

Through our partnerships, Habitat works to build resilient communities around the world that are better prepared for extreme weather and other shelter threats, using local knowledge and technology. This includes the ability to identify shelter risks, the skills to build them back safer and stronger than before, and basic plumbing knowledge to improve clean drinking water and sanitation for better health and wellness outcomes.

In the Pacific

The Pacific will continue to face the challenges that cyclone season brings each year, but with your support they can do so with strength, resilience, and preparation.

Through our programmes, locals are empowered to make meaningful improvements that suit the specific needs and requirements of their communities. This includes the ability to identify shelter risks, the skills to build them back safer and stronger than before, and basic plumbing knowledge to improve clean drinking water and sanitation for better health and wellness outcomes. Through our development programmes Build Back Safer (BBS) and Participatory Approach to Safe Shelter Awareness (PASSA), Habitat works to rebuild communities using local knowledge and technology.

Thanks to our partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), we can make every donation go even further. For every $1 you donate, MFAT will give us an extra $4. Meaning we can deliver real, long-lasting outcomes providing better homes and better futures for our neighbours.

Rebuilding Nepal

The devastation in Nepal is staggering. In the past decade, an overwhelming number of natural disasters have destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes and left millions of people displaced. We’re working with the government and NGOs to train communities so they can repair and rebuild – creating strength, stability and self-reliance.

Global Village

Habitat’s Global Village programme makes it possible for Kiwis to volunteer in one of our partner countries, working side by side with other volunteers and local families and communities. Projects vary, but always with the goal of improving homes and habitability. It’s a vibrant experience that immerses you in a different culture and country, making a positive long-term impact. You don’t need specific building experience, just a willingness to lend a hand.
