What We Do
Habitat for Humanity New Zealand is working towards a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We run a range of programmes to address inadequate and unaffordable housing, partnering with communities to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. We have an affiliated network of offices around New Zealand, and an international programme in the Pacific and Nepal. Find out more about what we do:
Our Work in New Zealand
Too many Kiwi families live in substandard conditions, where overcrowding, dampness and lack of insulation affect all aspects of health and wellbeing. Our offices across New Zealand run a range of programmes to ensure families can access the safety and security of a decent home, ranging from Progressive Home Ownership, Home Repairs, Social Rentals, the Curtain Bank, and more.
Habitat in the Pacific
Habitat New Zealand works across Fiji, Samoa and Tonga with disaster response and shelter development programmes. Our Pacific neighbours frequently experience severe weather events, causing mass destruction to homes and infrastructure that are already considered substandard. We partner with Pacific communities to rebuild and repair homes after disaster strikes. We also run development programmes aimed to build strength and self-reliance by using local knowledge and technologies to train communities in shelter-prepardness.
Shop at the ReStore
Habitat has a network of second-hand retail ReStores around New Zealand. We accept and resell quality new and gently pre-loved goods ranging from furniture, appliances, clothing, books, building materials, and more.
By shopping, donating or volunteering at your local ReStore, you are supporting us on our mission with all proceeds going directly toward our local housing programmes.
Global Village programme
Global Village is our international volunteer programme bringing teams of people together to build and improve homes all around the world. A Global Village trip offers the opportunity to travel to another country to work hand-in-hand with people around the world to help build simple, decent homes.
Register your interest for future trips by emailing [email protected] and we will keep you informed with updates as we know more.
