Volunteer with us

Volunteers are at the heart of Habitat’s mission. All it takes is a willingness to get involved and lend a helping hand. We couldn’t do what we do without the support of our amazing volunteers. Join our caring community and be the heart of change in yours.

Op Shop volunteers

We have a variety of volunteer roles available all around the country, from retail assistants and back-end coordinators to truck drivers and even antique experts! We also welcome groups from workplaces, community organisations and schools for volunteering days. Contact your local Habitat office to find out more.

Corporate Volunteering

Volunteering for Habitat supports Kiwis in housing need, it can also create a unique team bonding experience and boost morale. To find out how your business can get involved, please contact us.

Healthy Homes Programme

We provide healthy homes services, which directly address acute and preventable health issues that can be attributed to a cold damp living environment.

We work collaboratively with a range of partners including Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand Healthy Homes Initiative (HHI) providers, and whānau.

This service includes an initial home assessment, and a range of minor repairs and interventions that support a warmer, drier home including a full curtain installation service. During winter we also provide winter warmer packs which are distributed through a range of community and iwi partners.

Community Groups and Referrals

If you are a referrer, iwi, maternity provider, school, early learning centre or community group and have referrals interested in this service, or if you want to partner with or support our initiative, please get in touch with us.

Global Village

Habitat’s Global Village programme makes it possible for Kiwis to volunteer in one of our partner countries, working side by side with other volunteers and local families and communities. Projects vary, but always with the goal of improving homes and habitability. It’s a vibrant experience that immerses you in a different culture and country, making a positive long-term impact. You don’t need specific building experience, just a willingness to lend a hand.
