Curtain Bank

Habitat NorthernHow we help

The Habitat Curtain Bank provides low income Auckland individuals and whānau with free curtains for their home.

Research shows that well fitted curtains are effective at reducing heat loss.  This not only helps keep a home warm and healthy, but also greatly helps with reducing energy bills. Many families, particularly living in rental properties cannot afford to buy good quality curtains. The Habitat Curtain Bank exists to help support these families.

Since its inception, the Curtain Bank has cut, sewn and re-purposed thousands of curtains enabling hundreds of families to live in warmer and healthier homes.

Self-Referrals

We support families/whānau who are low-income, (who have a community services card) and are struggling to keep the cold out by distributing pre-loved curtains that are best fit for their home. These are double-lined and full length where possible.

Simply fill out the referral form and write in all your details, ensuring the correct measurements are against each room.

Once a referral has been received, and the curtains are ready, whānau can pick their curtains up from 8 Ormiston Road, Ōtara.

Agency Referrals

Social workers and agencies working with low-income family/whānau can refer forward for curtains. If you are an agency, please contact us.

Curtains Making a Difference

Since having the curtains installed this
