Habitat for Humanity Nelson relies heavily on volunteers to continue its work in the community. From volunteering in one of our ReStores, to helping out with administration or fundraising, there are a number of ways you can choose to volunteer!

Volunteering offers a great way to meet new people, develop new skills and give back to your community. Moreover, every volunteer plays an integral role in helping to provide homes and hope for kiwis in housing need.

Volunteer Opportunities at Habitat Nelson

ReStore shop volunteers

There are many different things you can do to help us at the ReStore! Depending on your particular skills, availability and interests, we can find a role that suits you. As a volunteer for the ReStore you will be given all the training and support you need to fulfil your role.

Location: Nelson & Motueka ReStores
Hours: 3 – 4 hours a week

Trade Me Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to photograph, list and monitor items on our Trade Me account. We will provide some training and guidance, but ideally you will already have personal experience using Trade Me.

You will need to have a good eye for taking photographs, as a good photo can make all of the difference when selling an item!

There will also be some research involved on the products that you are listing so that you can write a description and decide on a price.

Location: Nelson ReStore, 166 Tahunanui Drive, Tahunanui, Nelson

Van Driver

We are searching for a driver for our transit van, to carry out furniture deliveries. The ReStore has a Transit Van that we use to pick up donations, deliver items to customers, take items to the dump etc.

We have 2 people in the van at all times, so if you are unable to drive then you can still help load/unload. Also, if you are a confident driver but unable to do heavy lifting then that could work too!

Drivers need to have a full license and be over 25 years old to be covered under our insurance policy. A fun and varied role, give back to the community, meet new people and gain experience to help gain paid employment.

Location: Nelson ReStore, 166 Tahunanui Drive, Tahunanui, Nelson
Hours: 2 – 4 hours per week / fortnight / monthly

Social Media Volunteer

Do you want to help us with social media? At this stage, we just use Facebook, but are open to other ideas e.g pinterest, Instagram.
We’d like to post on Facebook more often with photos of the shop and new stock, profiles of our volunteers, customer stories, ideas for upcycling our stock etc.

Clothing & Fashion Volunteer

There are a few different roles available within the clothing and fashion area of our store. Volunteers can sort through donated clothing, organise/merchandise our clothing area or help with pricing.
We also need volunteers who can tidy and organise the clothing which is already displayed and ensure everything is in the correct place. Volunteers could also specialise in just shoes, handbags or jewellery if there is something that appeals to them. If you have a passion for clothing, you will have a lot of fun in this role!

Plant Propagators

Are you a keen gardener who wants to put your green thumbs to good use? We need volunteers to propogate plants for us to sell in our charity store. We would like to sell seedlings/succulents etc in our charity store and are looking for volunteers to propagate plants for us to sell to our customers. We would be able to provide pots etc. You would of course be able to do this from home, and we could pick up the plants from you.

Customer Service & Sales Volunteer

Front counter at the shop is a busy place and we need some extra help. This will include serving customers, cleaning, tidying, creating displays etc

The ReStore is a fun place to work and a great environment to learn practical retail skills. We can teach you how to use our point of sale system and eftpos machine, while gaining confidence and experience serving customers.
