Making Homeownership a Reality in South Auckland

Four families have moved into their brand new two-bedroom homes in Māngere East, Auckland through Habitat’s Progressive Home Ownership Programme.

For over 30 years, we have supported whānau to achieve their dreams of homeownership. The rent-to-buy model supports working families and couples to make homeownership a reality, with every rent payment going directly toward owning the home, making getting on the property ladder much more achievable.

One couple is the first in their family to own their own home. Last month the families’ loved ones and Habitat staff came together to honour their hard work and dedication, and all came together over kai to celebrate. The homes were blessed by the family’s local church and speeches were shared discussing the journey it took to be able to move into the new whare.

These homes are in a beautiful tree-lined cul-de-sac, the townhouses are within a short distance of Māngere East primary school, the local supermarket and community parks.

Applications are still open for Progressive Home Ownership homes in Auckland and Whangārei. To qualify, you must be a first home buyer, a couple or a small family in a working household who can afford market rent. These homes have a maximum of four occupants and the household must have an existing KiwiSaver account. No deposit is required.
