Your support helps a family to help
themselves

We believe no one lives in dignity, until everyone can live in dignity. And that every person has something to contribute and something to gain from creating communities in which all people have decent, affordable places to live.

Habitat welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds to be part of the solution, with opportunities in our business operations, ReStore and construction programmes, for individuals and groups. We also offer various options for people who’d like to contribute financially to the Habitat mission.

Every one makes a difference

Volunteers are at the heart of Habitat for Humanity’s mission, here in Aotearoa and around the world. In New Zealand, there are several ways you can get involved to help work towards a world where every one has a decent place to live.

ReStore volunteering – be part of the retail team

Proceeds from Habitat’s second-hand Restore shops help to fund our local housing programmes and initiatives. By shopping, donating or volunteering at your local ReStore you are supporting Habitat on our mission to build homes, communities and hope.

Volunteer roles available at the ReStores include: truck driver, retail assistant, sorting assistant, DIY assistant, inwards goods coordinator, electrical tester, collectibles pricer, antiques expert, lifter, packer, duster… general fixer-upper and all-round good sort.

We also welcome groups of people from workplaces, community organisations and schools for one-off volunteering days or regular shifts at ReStore.

Housing and construction volunteers

Habitat for Humanity helps families build and improve places to call home, and you can be a part of that. No skills or previous experience is needed – we always say the best thing you can bring with you is a positive attitude, and a willingness to do anything required to get the job done.

The most common way to get hands-on with our construction programmes is helping with painting, small building tasks – like decks or ramps – or yard clean ups.

Please contact your local Habitat office to enquire about opportunities near you.

Internships and work experience for students

Many Habitat for Humanity locations across New Zealand have opportunities for school and tertiary students to gain valuable life and occupation experience through working alongside our staff members.

These opportunities may vary from region to region, get in touch with your local Habitat to find out more.
