Habitat Northern one step closer to building healthier homes in Takānini

Nov 15, 2021

Habitat for Humanity Northern is delighted to have secured Resource Consent for a medium density housing development in Takānini, Auckland.

This mixed tenure development is a mix of 9, 3 bed Progressive Home Ownership (PHO), and 17 Social Rental 1 and 2 bedroom homes. “Through thoughtful design our hardworking team has created a sustainable, durable and energy efficient development which prioritises communal areas, providing intentional connections and a strong sense of belonging to a community. We are excited at getting one step closer to providing 9 Families with an opportunity for Home Ownership and another 17 families with security of tenure in a healthy, warm and energy efficient home“ said Jay, Habitats development project lead.

The Progressive Home ownership is a rent-to-buy system, with a strong emphasis on partnership between Habitat and the future homeowners. This is for low to mid income whānau who otherwise wouldn’t be able to achieve home ownership without a little support.

The 17 Social Rental units, (10 x 1 bedroom and 7 x 2 bedroom), all owned and managed by Habitat will provide security of tenure for whānau, ensuring families can have decent, affordable homes in a development designed to bring communities together.
