Curtain Bank provides homes with warmth thanks to Starship Foundation and Mercury

Habitat for Humanity Northern’s Curtain Bank service was featured on Newshub highlighting our partnership with Starship Foundation and Mercury to provide local Kiwi families in housing need with curtains to keep their homes warm and safe to prevent respiratory illness.

Seini and her family living in Favona are recipients of the Habitat Curtain Bank service. Her two eldest children suffer from asthma and are at higher risk of respiratory complications in the colder seasons. With the help of the new double-lined fitted curtains installed in their home courtesy of the Curtain Bank their home will be kept warmer and drier throughout the year, and will be a healthier environment for her family to live in.

“We had a whole range of things pretty much throughout their whole childhood in winter; problems with their throat, one after the other. Although the new curtains were predominantly installed to help the health of the children, it’s really helped the whole family and it’s made such a difference to the warmth of the house.”

Habitat Curtain Bank provides free pre-loved curtains to low-income whānau in the Auckland region. If you have a community services card, are a gold card holder or have a sick child living in the home you may be eligible for up to 14 curtains.
