Habitat for Humanity Central Region’s home repair programme has received a $45,000 boost, with the sale of the brand new Hands on for Habitat house last week, situated in the beautiful River Terrace in Ngaruawahia.
Hands on for Habitat was a fundraiser initiated by Habitat in partnership with Anthem Homes, Mitre Mega 10 Hamilton and Lodge Real Estate in September 2019, with an aim to raise funds for Habitat’s home repair programme.
The supply chain, expertise and partnerships of the major sponsors and their sub-contractors helped to build this high-quality house while keeping the building cost down.
The house was bought by Wendy Dooley, a long-time supporter of Habitat for Humanity.
“I like the idea of Habitat helping people to get on property ladder,” she said.
She has been a resident of the Ngaruawahia community for over 56 years and was pleased that the home would help her stay closer to her two daughters who live in the same area. She’s also “thrilled to have this opportunity to stay local and continue to be a part of my lovely clubs.”

The funds raised for Habitat’s home repair programme helps get low-income homeowners back on track by carrying out critical repairs such as insulation, heating, weatherproofing, improving accessibility or replacing a bathroom or kitchen. Last year we helped over 200 whanau to get critical repair work in place.
