Alma Brotherhood Court – Habitat’s retirement village in Kihikihi

Jan 21, 2022

It’s almost been a year since Kihikihi retirement village Alma Brotherhood Court became part of Habitat for Humanity Central Region. The village consist of 10 stand-alone one and two bedroom villas, each owned by residents.

In December 2021, there was some construction and gardening maintenance requirement at Alma Brotherhood site. A team from BODCO Dairy (Hamilton) volunteered with us to take up this job. Storm and her team spent an entire day alongside Habitat staff taking care of water blasting, giving a makeover to a small kitchen garden, trimming hedges, and doing some minor construction repairs. The residents were happy with the work being done and thanked the team from BODCO Dairy for giving their time to the community.

Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit organisation with a vision where everyone has a decent place to live. Volunteers are the heart of Habitat and play a vital role in our operations.

Volunteering for Habitat is an incredibly rewarding experience-we work on a hand up, not a hand out philosophy, so you know that you are giving people a hand up in addressing their housing needs and paving a way to a better life for them.
